Angela Spoja
Angela Spoja enters her sixth season coaching the Titan Volleyball program this fall. Coach Spoja’s record makes her one of the NWAACC’s most winning volleyball coaches. She is the co-club director of South Sound Volleyball Club. (Previously known as The Edge Volleyball Club and UPVBC which merged earlier this year.)
Spoja still plays competitive volleyball with her women’s team Island Style. They have spent many years dominating the region and have many regional titles. Coach Spoja goes to nationals each year to promote volleyball among women of all age groups.
Spoja started her volleyball career at TCC. From TCC, Spoja received a scholarship from Eastern Washington University where she finished her college career. She then moved for a brief time to California to play beach volleyball, before moving home to start her family. She has played in the American Volleyball Professionals (AVP) and the AVP Next, which started in California with the purpose of promoting beach volleyball in cities like Seattle. Coach Spoja started The Edge club volleyball in Tacoma seven years ago, and is now merging with UPVBC to make one of the region’s top club teams, South Sound Volleyball Club. South Sound Volleyball Club has 12 teams this first year out and two boys teams as well.Angela Spoja has more than fifteen years of coaching club volleyball, high school volleyball, and college volleyball. Spoja lives in Lakewood with her husband Jaron, and their 3 children, Sydney (18), J.J. (13) and Sophia (10).
Bob Iwasaki
Bob Iwasaki is married with two daughters who are former Puget Sound VBC players. Bob has recently retired from Boeing after 35 years as an Engineering Manager.
Bob’s volleyball background started as a parent who knew absolutely NOTHING about the game other than there were six players on the court, and the ball couldn’t be hit more than 3 times before being returned over the net. Other than that: positions, plays, overlaps, double hits? He had no clue. Years have since passed, and bob is now a high school volleyball referee, as well as a certified college Line Judge (D2). He helped coach at Decatur, Fife, and most recently, Beamer High schools and has been involved with Puget Sound VBC/VBA since 2002.
